RALEIGH, N.C. — A local man told friends at dinner Saturday that he is “not really on social media,” a statement made shortly before he opened an application for the 43rd time that day.
Sean Whitaker, 30, said he had stepped back from posting several years ago and no longer considers himself a participant.
“I just don't have the time for it,” Whitaker said.
Whitaker does not post. He does, however, open the application at intervals averaging nineteen minutes during waking hours.
“I use it to keep up with people,” he said, of people he has not spoken to.
Sessions typically last between eleven seconds and four minutes and conclude at the same point in the feed each time.
Whitaker said his screen time report is inaccurate because it includes music.
The report was unavailable for comment.
He opened the application again while it was being discussed.
