AUSTIN, Texas — A marketing operations manager saved approximately three hours of work last week by automating a reporting task, then spent four hours describing the automation to colleagues.
Brian Keller, 38, said the initial time savings were significant and repeatable.
“It used to take me a full morning,” Keller said. “Now it takes twenty minutes.”
Keller's explanation of this improvement began Tuesday and continued, in various formats, through Friday afternoon.
It included two impromptu desk demonstrations, a message thread, a recorded walkthrough and a scheduled session titled “Quick Overview (15 min).” The session lasted fifty-five minutes.
“People need to see the whole workflow,” Keller said. “Otherwise they won't trust it.”
The process has since been documented in a 63-slide internal presentation, which Keller is currently revising.
Productivity experts contacted by USA Brief described the net outcome as roughly neutral.
Keller said he is now automating the documentation.
