PORTLAND, OR — A local man described a $14 coffee as “a small luxury” Monday morning, roughly eleven minutes before opening his banking application.
Marcus Webb, 34, said the purchase represented a modest personal reward and an investment in his focus for the day ahead.
“You have to treat yourself sometimes,” Webb said, holding a cup that included oat milk, an additional shot and a syrup he could not name.
Webb checked his account balance while waiting for a crosswalk signal. He then stood still for a period of time witnesses estimated at forty seconds.
“It's fine,” Webb said. “It's a Monday thing.”
According to sources familiar with his finances, the small luxury is now expected to remain his only luxury until Thursday.
Webb said he would be preparing coffee at home for the remainder of the week, a plan he has announced on four previous occasions this year.
He added that the machine required for this plan is currently in a cabinet above his refrigerator.
At press time, Webb was reviewing a subscription list he described as “mostly necessary.”
