EVANSTON, Ill. — A neighborhood group chat concluded a 186-message discussion this weekend without reaching a decision, resolving a question, or identifying who was responsible for the matter under discussion.
The thread began Saturday at 8:04 a.m. with a question about trash collection.
By 9:30 a.m., it had expanded to include parking, a tree, the tree's owner and a photograph taken in 2023.
Fourteen residents participated. Four left the group. Two returned.
“I think we're all saying the same thing,” one resident wrote, at message 122.
They were not.
The discussion produced one proposal to form a smaller group, which was created and is now inactive.
The original question was not answered.
The trash was collected Monday, as scheduled.
