BOSTON — Sunday evening now begins shortly after lunch, according to survey findings released this week.
Respondents reported that the characteristic sensation of the week ahead arrives on average at 2:17 p.m., several hours before evening in the conventional sense.
“Clock time and Sunday time are not the same,” one researcher said.
Participants described the transition as gradual and then complete. Common markers included checking a calendar, glancing at a work application and putting away laundry.
“Nothing happens,” one respondent said. “It just stops being Saturday.”
The survey found that attempts to extend the weekend after the transition point are largely unsuccessful, though widely attempted.
The most frequently reported extension strategy was starting a film at 8:40 p.m.
Researchers noted that Friday evening remains structurally unaffected and continues to feel longer than it is.
The findings have not been submitted for review.
