TAMPA, Fla. — A local man scheduled to begin a new diet Monday spent Sunday conducting what he described as a farewell tour of local restaurants.

Chris Duran, 36, said the tour was necessary for psychological closure.

“You can't just stop,” Duran said. “You have to say goodbye properly.”

The itinerary included breakfast at a diner, lunch at a sandwich shop, an unscheduled afternoon stop and dinner at a restaurant he described as “the important one.”

“One final dessert,” he said. “Then that's it.”

The final dessert was followed by a second dessert, which Duran said did not count because it was shared.

Duran estimated Sunday's total intake at approximately three days of ordinary eating, a figure he characterized as front-loading.

The diet began Monday at 6 a.m. and was reported to be proceeding well as of 11 a.m.

At press time, Duran was reviewing the lunch options available near his office.
