MESA, Ariz. — An investor holding a portfolio valued at approximately $84 added a seventh position this weekend, describing the move as a step toward institutional balance.

Tony Reyes, 24, said concentration risk had become a concern.

“You never want too much in one name,” Reyes said.

The portfolio is now allocated across seven assets, each representing roughly $12, and one sector.

“Diversification protects you,” he said.

Reyes said his allocation model was developed over a period of two evenings and reviewed by a friend who agreed with it.

He described his current strategy as barbell, though he was unable to identify which end of the barbell contained the conservative holdings.

Transaction fees over the past month total $31.

Reyes said the fees are a cost of building a professional position and should not be evaluated in isolation.
