PHILADELPHIA — A 23-year-old updated his professional profile this week to list his current position as Independent Liquidity Provider, a title he said reflects the substance of his daily activity.
Nick Alvarez said the update was overdue.
“I've been doing this for a year,” Alvarez said. “I just hadn't formalized it.”
Friends said Alvarez had previously described the same activity as trading meme coins from bed.
“Both are true,” Alvarez said. “One is more professional.”
The profile lists the start date as January, the location as remote and the employment type as self-employed. Under responsibilities, Alvarez has written “market participation.”
Three former classmates congratulated him on the new role. One asked whether the firm was hiring.
Alvarez replied that he was not currently expanding headcount.
His profile also lists the skill “risk management,” endorsed by two people who have not observed it.
